Are today’s smartphones too clunky for your liking? You might want to consider getting yourself a pocket-friendly “iPhone for ants.”

Keen to learn how clones of devices might match up to the originals, Filip of EverythingApplePro has purchased a workable 2.8-inch iPhone 8 Plus replica from a Chinese retailer.

Upon switching on the phone, Filip found that the home screen adorably displayed two rows of shortcuts instead of four. It was, of course, also running on Android.

Evidently, the dupe isn’t the best choice for people with larger thumbs. “It’s just hard to be accurate on such a tiny display when typing,” Filip commented.

What really surprised the Apple enthusiast was how seamlessly the replica worked.

“I’m pretty amazed at how responsive it is… look at how ‘fluid’ it is… I don’t know what processor is in here, but for what I paid for, [which was] US$70 [to] US$80, [it’s] not bad.”

To ensure the test would be as accurate as possible, he also installed an iOS 10 simulator he found on the Google Play Store. It mimicked the iPhone’s home and lock screens, spotlight search, and even imitated the ‘Control Center’ from iOS 11.

Even with the iOS launcher installed, Filip commended the phone on how “flawlessly” its animations seemed to flow.

Of course, it didn’t come enabled with 3D touch, but the YouTuber said that you can launch the flashlight and camera from the faux ‘Control Center’ just like a full-fledged modern iPhone.

However, even though the phone’s settings claimed it was running on Android 6.0—a relatively new OS for a copycat—a quick check on device processor tool ‘Geekbench’ confirmed that it was only working on Android 5.1.

Above all else, the device worked pretty impressively. Possibly the main problem? You might lose it along with your keys.

Filip didn’t mention where he purchased the mini ‘iPhone 8 Plus’ from, but a commenter of his review video claimed the same model can be found on Amazon Germany.
